Biography
I completed the Academic Studies BMus Course at the Royal Northern College of Music, followed by a PGCE in Secondary Music at Durham University. I taught music in secondary schools for eighteen years, working with students from Y7-Y13 including GCSE and A Level Music. I also qualified as a Colourstrings Kindergarten Teacher, teaching in a private Music Kindergarten for two years. I moved into primary education in 2016 as a specialist classroom music teacher delivering music lessons to children from Nursery to Y6. I have directed choirs, orchestras, chamber ensembles and jazz bands. I have led tours abroad and directed musicals. Above all, I have always sought to provide students with many opportunities to perform both as soloists and alongside other musicians, dancers and actors.
As a teacher who has a passion for music I love to work with students of all ages to help develop their confidence, skill and love of performance. I teach voice, violin, piano, musicianship and music theory lessons. I also offer coaching for performances and compositions for GCSE and A Level examinations. I have over twenty years experience teaching in secondary, primary and kindergarten settings. I have worked both in the classroom and as a private instrumental/vocal teacher. I use a combination of styles and approaches in my lessons, tailoring them to suit the individual student.
